Yakov Estrin was a Soviet chess master and former World Champion of correspondence chess, born on April 21, 1923 in Russia. He was a renowned player in the Soviet Union and was awarded the title of International Master in 1950. He won the World Correspondence Chess Championship in 1965 and held the title until 1972. He was also a successful chess coach, training many of the Soviet Union's top players.
