Walter Raleigh was an English explorer, aristocrat, spy, poet, writer, and soldier born on January 22, 1552 in England. He is best known for popularizing tobacco in England and for his expeditions to the New World. He was also a courtier to Queen Elizabeth I and was knighted in 1585. He was later imprisoned in the Tower of London and eventually executed in 1618.
