Before Fame
He and his Sam & Dave collaborator, Dave Prater, first became acquainted in 1961 at a Miami, Florida music venue called The King of Hearts Club. They went on to record music with Roulette Records, Atlantic Records, and Stax Records, and soon released the 1965 hit "You Don't Know Like I Know."
