Before Fame
He studied at the Vienna University of Technology with the famed Adolf Loos; he also studied with other notables such as Max Fabiani and Karl Mayreder. He traveled to Italy and the Balkans in 1912 on a study trip with Sigmund Freud's son, Ernst Ludwig Freud.

He was born into a prosperous Jewish family; his father, Samuel Neutra, ran a metal foundry, and his mother, Elizabeth Glaser, was an IKG Wien member. He married the daughter of an Architect, Dione Niedermann, in 1922.
