Highly regarded musician instrumental in developing Boston's 20th-century music scene. He courted the contributions of patroness Fanny Peabody Mason.
He and Composer Maurice Ravel had a long-standing friendship, beginning when he worked with Ravel at Duo-Art recording piano rolls.
