Ukrainian figure skater who won Olympic gold in 1994. She also took gold at the 1993 World Championships in Prague.
She was left almost familyless after the death of her mother at age 13.
After her skating career, she suffered from a number of alcohol-related problems, including a car crash in Connecticut in 1997 where she was arrested for driving under the influence.
She called of her engagement to Gene Sunik in 2005.
She defeated Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
