Kofi Annan was a Ghanaian politician and the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, serving from 1997 to 2006. He was born on April 8, 1938 in Kumasi, Ghana. During his time at the UN, Annan founded the Global AIDS and Health Fund and was co-awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for his work with the organization.
