Kira Zvorykina was a Ukrainian chess master born on September 29, 1919. She was one of the most successful female chess players of the mid-20th century, winning numerous tournaments and championships throughout her career. She was a member of the Soviet Women's Chess Team and was awarded the title of International Master in 1950. She was also the first woman to be awarded the title of Grandmaster in 1976.
