Joan Chandler was born in Butler, Pennsylvania in 1923 and grew up in a family car dealership. She pursued an acting career, appearing on Broadway and in films such as Humoresque (1946) and Rope (1948). She also featured in radio dramas and stage productions, such as "My Three Angels" and "The Tempest". Her last notable role was in "The Disenchanted" in 1959. It is speculated that her career may have been affected by blacklisting or a physical similarity to another actress. She gave up acting in 1962 and lived out the remainder of her life in Manhattan.
