Isidor Straus was a German-born American businessman and politician. He was born on February 6, 1845 in Otterberg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1854. He was the co-owner of Macy's department store and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He was also a philanthropist and a leader in the Jewish community. He tragically died in the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
