Japanese foil fencer who is best known for earning a gold medal at the 2006 Asian Games, silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, team silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and individual gold medal at the 2015 World Fencing Championships.
He graduated from Doshisha University. His father encouraged him to pursue fencing at an early age, and he first began practicing the sport in elementary school.
