Tanzanian politician belonging to the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party. She is a third-term Member of Parliament for Tanga Constituency and serves as the Minister of Health, Seniors and Children. She was appointed in 2010 to a seat reserved for women. She is the former Programme Officer for Governance, Refugees & Gender at the Embassy of Denmark.
She graduated from Korogwe Girls Secondary School in 1993, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Dar es Salaam in 1998. She got a Master of Laws degree from the University of Pretoria in 2001. Between 2000 and 2010, she worked for various governmental and NGO agencies.
While serving, she has contributed to laws meant to curb homosexuality and prohibiting underage marriage. Her most popular social media platform is Twitter, with 750,000 followers on her ummymwalimu account. Early in her professional career, she worked as a Law Research Officer.
