Susan Damante was born in Palo Alto, California in 1950. She attended Woodside High School and Canada College, and was first runner-up to Miss California in the Miss America Pageant. She studied classical theater at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, and made her debut in the film The Candidate (1972). She moved to Hollywood and studied with Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, appearing in various TV series. Her biggest break came with her starring role in The Adventures of the Wilderness Family (1975) and its two sequels. After overcoming an "incurable" illness, she returned to the stage in New York, studying at the Atlantic Theater and starring in "Her Sonoma Story" at the Neighborhood Playhouse. She is currently developing her solo play based on her own life and near death experiences.
