Stephanie Kwolek was an American chemist born on July 31, 1923 in New Kensington, PA. She is best known for inventing poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide, more commonly known as Kevlar, which is used in bicycle tires and body armor. In 1995, she became the fourth woman to be added to the National Inventors Hall of Fame, cementing her legacy as a pioneering scientist.
