Patrick Leahy is a long-serving United States Senator from Vermont, having held the position for more than four decades. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has served as the President pro tempore of the United States Senate. As the former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he has been instrumental in passing several important pieces of legislation, including the Justice Safety Valve Act of 2013, The Smarter Sentencing Act of 2013, and the Public Safety Enhancement Act.
