Olivier Gourmet is an internationally renowned actor from Belgium. He was born in 1963 in Namur, Wallonia, and grew up in Mirwart, where his father was a cattle dealer and his mother managed a family hotel-restaurant. At 13, he was sent to boarding school, where he discovered a talent for mimicry and comedy. He attended the Conservatoire de Liège and won first prize after two years. In 1996, he had his first significant role in a Dardenne brothers' film, The Promise. Since then, he has featured in every film from the Dardennes and has become a much sought after actor, making an average of five films per year. He has won numerous awards, including the Cannes Jury Prize for Interpretation in 2002 and the Critics Award at the Cannes Festival in 2011. He is married to Catherine and they have two children, Louis and Juliette. After his mother suffered a stroke, the family returned to Mirwart to manage the hotel-restaurant.
