Bolshevik revolutionary and one of the first members of the Politburo who was one of the more prominent victims of the "Moscow Trials" of the late 30's. He formulated the thesis of "Socialism in One State", which later would become one of the major cornerstones of Stalinism.
While in New York City in 1916, he edited the newspaper Novy Mir with Leon Trotsky.
After the October revolution, he acted as the Editor of the party newspaper Pravda.
His wife, Anna Larina, was sent to a labor camp after he was executed.
Joseph Stalin, feeling threatened by his old comrade, ordered his execution after a show trial.
