Nellie was an extraordinary actor, discovered by Broadway animal trainer William Berloni at the Humane Society of New York in 2008. She went on to appear in more than 700 consecutive shows of "Legally Blonde: The Musical" and was selected to play the canine role in "Paterson". Despite being diagnosed with cancer during production, Nellie completed her shooting and was posthumously nominated for best dog actor at Cannes in 2016. She became the first Palm Dog winner to receive the award posthumously and producer Carter Logan accepted the prize, a golden collar, and urged people to adopt a dog instead of buying one from a store or breeder.
