He was a graduate of the Actor's Studio and was part of the original crew of the Lincoln Center Repertory Company. He was known for playing military types or proletarian firebrands, and was most notably cast as a young burglar in the 1949 Broadway play "Detective Story". He was later brought to Hollywood to recreate his role for the 1951 motion picture. He was also known for his roles in Point Blank (1967) and Patton (1970). He was prolific in television, often playing characters with something to hide, such as Eastern bloc spies. He was also known for his role in the Star Trek episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?". Michael Strong continued to act until the end of his life.
