Hooker signed for Division Two side Brentford in a £5,000 deal on 14 November 1994, only a week after joining Gillingham. Hooker initially made Capital League appearances for the club's reserve team and was called into the senior side for the first time for a league match versus Peterborough United on 10 December. He made his Football League debut when he replaced Darren Annon during the 2–2 draw. It was his only involvement in the first team during the 1994–95 season. He made regular appearances for the reserves, scoring five goals and helping the team to second place in the Capital League.
