Herbert Chitepo was a Zimbabwean politician and barrister who was born on June 15, 1923. He was the leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union from 1963 to 1975, and was the first black citizen of Rhodesia to become a barrister. He was a prominent figure in the struggle for Zimbabwean independence and was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the country's independence in 1980.
