A Canadian author of bestselling Christian and supernatural novels, he is most known for The Oath, published in 1995, and This Present Darkness, published in 1986. His other works include The Cooper Kids Adventure Series, The Veritas Project Series, and several non-fiction works.
He was born in Canada, but he grew up in Seattle, Washington, where he became a well-known storyteller and bluegrass banjo player.
He studied screenwriting and English at the University of California-Los Angeles and also worked as an assistant pastor at an Assembly of God Church.
He and his wife, Barbara, settled in Idaho.
He and Ted Dekker were co-authors of the 2006 horror novel, House.
