Enric Miralles was a Spanish architect born on February 25, 1955. He is best known for designing the Scottish Parliament Building, although he died before its completion. His work gained recognition in the late 1980s, when the death of the oppressive Francisco Franco allowed Spanish culture to flourish.

Before Fame
He graduated from the School of Architecture of Barcelona in 1978. He helped erect the Estació de Sants' forecourt, the Plaça dels Països Catalans, while employed with the office of Albert Viaplana and Helio Piñón.
Trivia
He also instructed at several universities, including occupying the conceptional design chair at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main and the Kenzo Tange chair at Harvard University.
Family Life
He established his reputation working on projects with his first wife, Carme Pinos, before their separation in 1991. He married fellow Architect Benedetta Tagliabue, his second wife, practicing with her under their firm, EMBT Architects.
