She was then signed to Universal and starred in westerns and film-noir, receiving critical praise for her performances in Playgirl (1954), Four Guns to the Border (1954) and Man in the Shadow (1957). She retired in 1958, except for one B-western in 1963, to focus on her family life. After her 1975 divorce, she considered resuming her career, but has not made any more films to date.
