Retired American ice hockey player known for being captain of the U.S. women's hockey team that won a gold medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics, and for being one of the first women to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November of 2010. She also played for the Vancouver Griffins in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).
She grew up playing hockey at a very young age in a family with multiple hockey players. She attended Concordia University Montreal, Canada. She also played for their team there. She then began playing hockey for the US national team.
She was named USA Women's Player of the Year in 1996. She played in every women's hockey world championship for the United States from the inaugural event in 1990 up through 2005. She scored the first Olympic goal for the US women's hockey team on February 8th, 1998. She is the author of the children's book, "I Can Play Too," which was illustrated by her brother Don.
She was born in Downers Grove, Illinois. She is the younger sister of former NHL player Tony and Buffalo Sabres head coach Don. She has one sister and four brothers. She married Ray Ferraro in the year 2004. They have two sons together named Riley and Reese.
