Best known by his nickname of "Mr. Mummy," this Egyptologist is particularly famous for his research on ancient diseases. He also hosted several documentary television programs about Ancient Egypt.
After graduating from the City University of New York's Hunter College, he received an advanced degree in philosophy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Early in his career, he conducted extrasensory perception (ESP) research at the Institute of Parapsychology in Durham, North Carolina.
He was born and raised in New York City's Bronx borough.
Though he is known primarily for his research on Egyptian mummies, he also studied the mummified body of the famous Argentine political wife and activist, Eva Peron.
