Anwar Sadat was an Egyptian president who served from 1970 to 1981. He was born on December 25, 1918 in Mit Abu al-Kum, Egypt. He is most well-known for leading Egypt in the Yom Kippur War against Israel in 1973. In 1977, he became the first Arab leader to visit Israel and recognize its right to exist, which was a major step towards peace in the region.
