Egyptian striker who, with his brother, led several Egyptian teams to success in the 1980s, '90s and early 2000s. Starred for Al-Ahly, scoring over 100 goals in 12 years with the club.
He made his professional debut at 18 years of age with his hometown team Al Ahly.
He scored 68 goals for the Egyptian national team from 1985 to 2006.
His twin brother, Ibrahim, an accomplished soccer player in his own right, often played on the same team with Hossam.
He and Magdi Yacoub both became tremendous Egyptian-born soccer players, though Yacoub mostly played in the European leagues.
