He is the oldest of five children and captained the football and basketball teams in high school, as well as being named All-League in both sports. In 2010 he was inducted into the Croton Harmon High School Hall of Distinguished Graduates. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1986. After graduating he started off working on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange for Drexel Burnham Lambert. Adami joined J. Aron as a vice president in 1996. He became executive director at CIBC World Markets in 2003.
He is a member of the Keppler Speakers and speaks at colleges and universities. He is one of the original cast members known as the "Fast Money Five" of the CNBC show Fast Money. The show debuted in 2006 and Guy plays the role of "The Negotiator". Adami joined optionMONSTER in 2008.
