Swiss-born flautist who joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1992. He was the recipient of L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2009.
He spent the first year of his life living in Baghdad and later attended the Conservatoire de Paris.
When he joined the Berlin Philharmonic at age twenty-two, he was the ensemble's youngest member.
