Claude Nicollier, born on September 2, 1944 in Vevey, Switzerland, was the first Swiss astronaut to fly in space. He flew on four Space Shuttle missions, making him the first Swiss astronaut to fly in space and the first European to perform a spacewalk. He was also the first astronaut to fly on all five Space Shuttle orbiters.
