Cho Jung-Ho is the youngest son of Hanjin Group founder Cho Choong-Hoon, who started out with a single truck and built an empire based mostly on transportation. Jung-Ho attended boarding schools in Massachusetts and California, and then studied economics at the University of Southern California. After working for Korean Airlines in Europe, he obtained his M.B.A. from the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland. Upon his return to South Korea in 1989, he became a director with Hanjin Investment & Securities, which is now known as Meritz Financial Group, of which he is the chairman.
