Charles Carroll of Carrollton was a prominent figure in late 18th and early 19th-century American politics. Born in Annapolis, Maryland in 1737, he served as a delegate to both the Congress of the Confederation and the Continental Congress before being elected as Maryland's first United States Senator in 1789. He held office until 1792, and was a Federalist politician throughout his career.
