Anita Desai is a British fiction writer born in India on June 24, 1937. She is best known for her novel The Village By the Sea, which won the British Guardian Prize. Desai is also a university professor, teaching humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times.
