Amelia Boynton Robinson was an African-American civil rights activist born in Savannah, GA on August 18, 1911. She is best known for her leadership in the 1965 civil rights march in Alabama, which became known as Bloody Sunday and ultimately led to the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. In 1990, she was awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Medal in recognition of her work.
