Ahmet Nazif Zorlu was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1944. His father, Haci Mehmet Zorlu, established a business weaving bed sheets on a homemade loom in Denizli in 1953. In the 1960s, Ahmet and his brother Zeki Zorlu expanded the business into retail, contract manufacturing, and the home textiles brand TAC. Zorlu Holding then diversified into energy, consumer electronics, appliances, nickel mining, real estate development, and hotels. In 2013, Zorlu Holding completed Zorlu Center, a complex of residences, offices, a shopping mall, and a hotel in Istanbul. Ahmet, a high school dropout, owns a private island off the Turkish coast and travels around Europe in a custom-designed helicopter.
